Hi! I’m Paul and this is my web site. I am a musician and a visual artist. I thought I would tack a page on here that was not a part of my CV to just sort of explain myself and my site. I worked in web and multimedia design for most of the past decade. I was also in several bands during these years- achieving various levels of success- but hemmed in by work schedules and daily life type things- there was always a glass ceiling over these endeavors. In 2009, I took a cue from economic and personal events to return to pursuing the artistic ideals that led me to be a creative in the first place. In the years since I have been touring with of Montreal in various technical capacities from LD to stage tech to theatrics performance. This past year, Davey Pierce from of Montreal launched his own project, Yip Deceiver. I did a remix for the first release EP and then joined on as touring guitarist/ multi-instrumentalist. We have spent the past year playing festivals and completing our own national tour. All in all, it’s been a busy period and has taken me around the US a few times and by the end of September I will have been to Europe for the third time in less than a year. I certainly can’t complain about cabin fever.
I am currently working on my own release (that will be on Aerobic International) – the Lonely Paul EP or LP:EP- which at present is slated for early 2012. I also still take on various freelance projects that range from web design to audio editing to sound design to scoring to motion design. It sounds more all over the place than it is- the similarities between different mediums’ creative processes often inform one another and I often find that developing for one gives new ideas for the other and vice versa. In the course of my life I have gone from drawing to painting to photoshop to after effects parallel to going from playing guitar and piano to sequencing midi to recording audio to combining all these worlds.
I am actively seeking other opportunities for personal and artistic development including, but not limited to: scoring/ composing to order for commercial/tv/film/video games. I am not limited to audio based projects and still very much enjoy web, motion and animation work. I enjoy working with groups to realize ideas and enjoy the collaborative process. Often, the difference between a project that seems like work and one that is a joy to complete is the people with whom I am working. The main goal of my web site is not to be the more generic “portfolio” site, but to create a space that communicates something more about me than my basic qualifications- more to the effect of who I am; that I am fun to work with and that I might be the versatile and driven type of guy who should be working with you on your current and future creative efforts. Please don’t hesitate to drop me a line.
Thanks for visiting!
